Where Has Google Glass Gone?

Anything that Google touches has significance. Even if it's just because they can spend an ungodly amount of money on anything in which they have an interest. It's not only that - Google has a very futuristic view of things. When they purchased YouTube for an unheard of amount of money - a lot of people said they were crazy. Boy, were they wrong. In 2012, Google announced the creation of Google Glass, a prototype wearable computer that was worn as a pair of glasses. They then released a limited edition of the actual product in 2013 and called it “the Glass Explorer” for the tidy sum of $1,500. Most Google products get a lot of attention and this one gave birth to a whole line of copycats and controversy as it launched us into a new era of personal computing. In this episode of Working the Web to Win, we will explore Google Glass, how it started, where it has taken us over the last three years and where we predict it will go from here. So read on and hold on to your glasses as we tackle Google Glass and the new industry it has spawned.

The Paris Fashion show has nothing on Google and Amazon when it comes to offering wearable technology.  The two titans of tech have recently weighed in with major advancements in wearables.  Amazon has just opened a Wearable Technology Store in the UK that offers more than 100 different wearable devices, including activity trackers, smart watches, smart glasses and wearable cameras.  Google last month rolled out their Android Wear operating system for smart watch developers.  This says nothing of the hundreds of companies that have also leapt into the rapidly expanding wearable's market. This week's radio show will cover this topic, so if you want additional information, don't forget to listen live or download the podcast.

In a take right out of one of those late night sci-fi movies the race is currently on to determine who is going to conquer the world first: autonomous robots or cybernetically enhanced humans.  If you have been paying any attention to the newsfeeds recently, there have been a number of articles and videos that have clearly demonstrated that a major shift in the way we look at and deal with technology is now under way.

When most people think about robots today, they either get a picture in their heads of the industrial automatons that now assemble things like cars and vacuum cleaners, or they think of mama’s little helper the Roomba.  But what most folks don’t appreciate is that everyone from Google to the Dept. of Defense is on the verge of creating robotic systems that are capable of doing everything from fighting fires to driving on California’s interstates with little or no input or oversight from anyone.
