Reprint in its entirety, "ChatGPT: Savior, Slanderer or Spy?"

One of our clients posted this article on the latest AI happenings that we thought it was significant. We asked them for permission to repost it to our blog as we know it is relevant to our audience. Sometimes these type articles have a tendency to disappear, so we want to get the word out on our blog as well. Having said, we are very happy to share this article and highly recommend it to anyone who is either into AI tech, or is worried that AI is going to ruin our world. Read, enjoy and share it. This is an article for our times.

ChatGPT: Savior, Slanderer or Spy?

In the past couple of decades the public has seen the arrival of technology that isn't just a game changing, it's revolutionized the way we live and work.  Some of these technologies have been beneficial, such as the amount of money saved in postage due to email and texting.  Some of these technologies like ransomware have been harmful.  And some, like autonomous vehicles and cryptocurrency have yet to be decided.  Yet none of the technologies that have come before offer the kinds of promise and perils of artificial intelligence.  To most of us the idea of AI brings to mind dystopian Sci-Fi flicks like 2001: A Space Odyssey where a conscious computer loses its electronic mind, or The Terminator that portends all out war between robots and humanity.  While entertaining, most people don't believe that either of these outcomes is likely to happen.  At least not for another hundred years or so.  Well, I'm here to tell you that a taste of a future where artificially intelligent machines have a profound and sometimes troublesome effect on humankind has already arrived.  What I'm talking about is web-enabled, AI-powered chatbots that do much more than hold a lively conversation with users.  While several are in the beta testing phase, at least one, OpenAI's ChatGPT is not only readily available to the public, it has already created considerable controversy.

AI - Artificial Intelligence, the world is a buzz with the term. Tons of commercials tout that it's will be the savior of mankind. Many of the latest movies are featuring it, and of course the main players are all saying that their AI is the best for your needs. But what is true and what is hype? How much can your Google Assistant, Amazon's Echo, Apple's SIRI, Microsoft's Cortana and IBM Watson really do? In some cases a lot less that they say and in some cases more than you know.  It's like any tool, it can be useful when operated properly, it can be a spy, a weapon or even an expensive toy, but regardless of any potential dangers, the world is clamoring for this Star Trek Tech in huge numbers. In this episode of Working the Web to Win, we will explore the state of the top AI contenders. What they can and can't do, as well as providing resources so you can decide whether you're ready for an artificially intelligent world. So get ready to prompt your favorite AI devices for more information as we delve into the Current Evolution of our AI world.

I-Spies Are Looking for You

Just when you thought online privacy couldn’t get any worst, technology developers have unveiled software that lets your smartphone eavesdrop on your TV viewing habits.  Called SilverPush, this Android-based third-party app uses your smartphone to listen for television shows, in turn providing advertisers with information concerning user’s viewing habits. When the app was unleashed in Europe, it caused the US Federal Trade Commission to send letters to12 developers known to be using SilverPush.  While the developer of SilverPush claims that the software hasn’t been used in the US as of yet, the feds warned them that use on American smartphones would result in the developers being held liable for damages if users weren’t made aware of the data being collected.

What’s Up with Web 3.0?

This ain’t your daddy’s world wide web.  If you thought that Web 2.0 was mind blowing, wait until you see what’s coming.  Where Web 2.0 turned an online research tool into a global social phenomenon that redefined how we interact with one another, Web 3.0 promises to take us where no web surfer has gone before.  That’s chiefly due to the fact that the next generation of online technology will be AI enabled and able to deliver more information faster and in more ways than is now possible.  If you want to see what Web 3.0 has in store for you in the not too distant future, buckle up as I give you a sneak preview in this week’s blog.

Do Smartphones Dream About Facebook?

You may not have noticed, but artificial intelligence, otherwise known as AI, has been sending its all-knowing tendrils slowly but surely onto the World Wide Web.  Many of the largest tech companies are arduously working to be the first to perfect this technology so they can corner the market. The big players include Google, Apple, Facebook, Microsoft, IBM, and Amazon. Google has been in the headlines a lot recently. At first, its foray online was tenuous at best and comical at worst when Google created an AI that it turned loose to try to make sense of the images it encountered.  Hoping to find a workaround for one of the search engine’s biggest lapses, which makes search engine spiders blind to images and videos, the attempt resulted in hilarity when Google’s creation began to morph images as it tried to make sense of queries posed about them.

The Robots Are Coming - Are You Ready?

Will our New Bot's be our Buddies or cause us Robot Rage?

Is there a robot or android in your future? More importantly, what will the ultimate effect on society be once robots start taking over. How will what has until now, been a unique human experience change? Until recently, robots, (aka androids for star Trek fans or droids for Star Wars fans)  have for the most part been relegated to factories and the living room rug. But all that is about to change. A number of firms are currently making robots that are designed to work alongside us in warehouses, retail establishments and offices. More importantly, as these droids become more autonomous, will they slowly but surely push their human counterparts out of the picture altogether? Will their growing intelligence become a threat to the human species itself, as a number of scientists believe? Whether human beings embrace these automated assistants as a boon, or people begin to rage against the machines that were meant to help them, is still too soon to tell. Love them or hate them, join me today as I take a look at the rise of the robots in the 21st century.

When Will Computers Out Think You?

As I sit here thinking about artificial intelligence, I am reminded of all the amazing motion pictures that predict the evolution of computer to thinking and self replication machines. Some of my favorites are "Terminator," "iRobot," "War Games," and "Battle Star Galactica." In all of these movies, the computers become more powerful than the people who created them. Some have happy endings, other not so much.
