The Connectors Latest Prognostications for the Coming New Year and Beyond

Every year I stick my neck out and make predictions about what's world-changing events that are going to happen on the World Wide Web. I base these predictions on the clues I see happening on the Web every day. I also spend time researching trends and even know that some events repeat themselves because some internet players never learn. In this episode of Working the Web to Win, I will provide what I see as the coming attractions from the future headlines of World Wide Web. So I'm breaking out my crystal ball to share with you, what I see as the good, the bad and the ugly for 2020 and beyond.

In the past, I have written many prediction articles, and my accuracy rating has always been very high, (around 95% or higher). My accuracy is high because I study trends and because human nature is somewhat foreseeable (i.e., business and consumer nature are predictable). If you don't believe my accuracy, you can check my predictions for yourself. Later in the article, I will discuss "what's up with Twitter", the looming changes from 5G, Smartphone Wars, Drone Attacks, Browser Dominance, the coming election misconduct, the OS wars and issues with Privacy! What's the Deal with Twitter? There is usually one or two items that I get wrong each year. In most cases what I miss is predicting the actual timeline of when the prediction will take place, not the forecast of the event itself. One Item that has eluded me is the sale I have predicted that Twitter will be adsorbed or purchased by one of the internet Giants for several years.  In the past, Twitter was not profitable (neither was Facebook until it went public), but that story has now ended. Twitter has now shown consistent growth and profitability for more than a year, and that means this cash cow is ripe for the taking. I am not sure who is looking to add social media to their tech portfolio. It could be Apple or Amazon, both companies have money to burn. Or maybe, even Alphabet (aka Google) since they ditched Google Plus and now don't have a "Social Network." These articles provide more detail on Twitter profitability and why I think cash-rich tech companies may be looking to add a new social media income stream to their portfolio!

Who will win the Smart Phone Wars? Its all about 5G! 5G cell

networks will change the way we live! It will alter how we access and watch TV, drive our cars, make reservations, take vacations, learn in school, and communicate with family and friends around the world. It's not just about using our smartphones. The first carrier to build a reliable, widespread 5g network will be head and shoulders above its competitors. And like to the old adage, he who is first across the line wins! The top four carriers are duking it out to see who can build their network the fastest. Right now there are approximately 14 cities that support 5G networks. By the end of 2020, that number will be around 30 to 40 cities. The top four carriers (ATT, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint) will be hustling to get their 5G ducks in a row. But here is the most essential point of my prediction, 5G will make many new millionaires! This technology has such widespread implications that it will change the way we live as a technologically advanced society. 5G companies and their spin-offs are investment opportunities waiting to happen. However, make sure you do your due diligence and stick to industries you know. I'm looking at the blue-chips myself as there are many 5G players to be had. 

The Cellphone Giants Number  Shrinks from Four to Three - or do they? Right now there are 4 major cellular network providers, but I predict that this will change soon enough. I believe Sprint will be the next provider to be swallowed up by one of its competitors. T-Mobile recently gobbled-up Metro PCS and they are in an expansion mode as they race to win the 5G land-grab war. It could also be any of the others as well. This includes foreign companies because several international cell giants are cash-rich, and investing in a US company is usually a good bet. Look to see one of the big four players disappear in the next couple of years as the 5G war plays itself out.

What about the MVNOs? - One exciting aspect of the Cellular wars is

the growth of what I call boutique carriers. The industry calls them "Mobile Virtual Network Operators" or MVNO for short. MVNO carriers don't have their own physical networks like the top four, they rent usage from the top four networks. Each of the top four carriers has MVNO carriers renting from them. The share number of MVNO carries is impressive. An article entitled "List of Carriers and MVNO's" show that ATT has 16, Sprint has 23, T-Mobile has 23 and Verizon has 14, that 76 MVNO players in all.

My prediction is to expect this number to fluctuate a lot over the net few years. The trend will generally be fewer players as these smaller companies struggle to maintain their business models. This is an arena that they have little control over the physical network s they rent. I compare their situation to that of what C-level internet access carriers had in the early 2000s.  Eventually, may of them disappeared leaving only a few real players.

Drones become the goto weapon of choice for terrorists and assassinations!  A recent article I wrote showed that one of my earlier predictions came true. In 2015, my business partner Carl Weiss and I published "Dawn of the Drones" which we then discussed during our live BlogTalkRadio show that week. I brought up the scary idea that it was just a matter of time before terrorists would adopt low-cost drones to carry out bomb attacks. Sure enough, in 2019, the headlines revealed that such attacks were now taking place. My article called "Terrorist's Are Now Using Drones to Attack People and Infrastructure Targets," spelled out the details of what had taken place. The US military has been using drones to attack high-value terrorist targets for years, and terrorists wanted to fight back in the same way.  It was just a matter of time for this to take place. With prices of commercial drones coming down and their capabilities going way up, it has made it easier for terrorists to acquire low-cost drone bombs. The good news is that the US has developed some countermeasures for these types of attacks. However, these measures won't stop a terrorist from buying a $500 drone and turning it into a bomb with a 1-mile attack radius! My prediction is that we will see many drone bomb attacks in the coming years!

Google's Chrome browser falls from grace! - Recently I wrote an

an article called; "The Renewal of the Browser Wars where I stated that we will begin to see significant changes in who dominates the browser market. In previous browser wars, it was all about market share and performance. Today it's all about privacy and security. Chrome is a very secure browser, but it also is one of the least private browsers on the market. I predict that we will see the beginning of a significant privacy invasion backlash on the internet. Companies who are privacy and security-friendly will win the hearts and minds of the American people if not the world at large. Other browsers are starting to eat into Chromes market share, and I feel this trend will continue unless Google makes some drastic changes to its marketing philosophy.

2020 will bring Skewed Search Results to the Election! - During the 2016 election cycle, Google was caught skewing search results favoring Hillary Clinton verse Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump. Expect to see such shenanigans once more during this election cycle. Why am I predicting this even after all the fallout caused by this scandal? Its because Google executives have not only been caught on tape saying that they plan on doing it again, they said they plan on doing a better job this time. Facebook Gets In Trouble Again for Filtered News Posts! - As far as Facebook goes, they have never shown a willingness to do things that are not in their financial interest. They just keep doing what they think is best regardless of whether its against the law, even if they get caught at it.  For example, another article from the Washingtonexaminer onlineshowed how Project Veritas uncovered Facebooks alleged misconduct. The article states; "According to a former Facebook insider who was interviewed by Project Veritas, the social media giant has allegedly developed an entire set of tools that it frequently uses to suppress conservative voices and target outspoken right-leaning users." Project Veritas states they Facebook has been Deboosting conservative-leaning post with these tools. Like I said, Facebook can't help itself. As far as I can see, they feel it's their playing board, and they will do as they please because they are not regulated like the analog media industries. However, my prediction is that this is about to change. Just look at the 5 billion dollar fine that was slapped on Facebook for breaking many privacy laws over the last few years. Yes, privacy is a big issue, and this backlash wave is just getting started.

The OS War becomes a Foursome! Microsoft is starting to lose dominance in the computer OS war. It has been trouncing Apple and Linux at the desktop arena for many years. But now there is a new game changer entering the war, and it's from Google. Google Chrome OS is making headway. In 4qtr. of 2018, 21% of all notebook sales came with Chrome OS. That a significant number. I wrote an article comparing Microsoft Windows 10 notebook usage compared to Chromebook usage and that article was a big hit. The article is called; "Can you live without Microsoft by using Chrome and still be productive?" In it, I talked about how Microsoft's updates are causing productivity losses. I also discuss what it would take to do the same job with a much less expensive Chromebook notebook. I predict that this trend will continue to grow unless the Chromebook growth phenomenon is halted because of Google's lack of privacy concerns.

Privacy and Security Begin's to get Better! In the last couple of years,

internet security has been failing miserably.  This is in part due to the nature of the independence the internet incorporates, the wide variety of equipment, products, and companies involved and the varied vigilance that users employ. But I now see a light at the end of the security and privacy tunnel. New, inexpensive security products are finally making their way onto the front-lines of internet user protection. The government seems to finally be paying attention to the ever-escalating security threats confronting our country. 22 towns in Texas have been held for ransom with ransomware attacks. I predict that our government will begin to develop a comprehensive initiative to create a unified internet security platform. This will combine the efforts of the private sector, the military and the government research centers which makes it easier for businesses and individuals to protect their digital data. Even if this does not happen, I still foresee several internet security companies eventually banding together to take on this task. This includes tech giants like Google, Apple, Microsoft, Facebook, and others. The truth is, if these tech giants don't deal with this threat, eventually their internet marketing revenues will disappear. Internet advertising sales will shrink for fear of consumers security being compromised.

In this article I have discusses 10 predictions that I foresee coming in 2020 and beyond. These include predictions about 5G networks, browser dominance, OS wars, Privacy and security issues and much more. I am rarely wrong. In most cases, if I am, its because the predictions took longer to come true than I foresaw.  Having said that, they still, for the most part, came true!
