So, you’re on a budget, but you know that your website’s organic position is extremely important since that’s how people are going to find your type of business online. The question is, “How do you get on page one of Google search without paying an SEO company a ton of money to get there?” The answer: You have to do a lot of the SEO work yourself. The reality is, without the right optimization tools, this is a tough row to hoe! In this episode of Working the Web to Win, we will cover my favorite SEO software tools and apps. Some are free, some have minimal cost, and some cost more. But all of them make getting found much easier than if you tried to make this happen without them. So, fire up your computer system as we explore my favorite Free and not so Free SEO tools for getting on page one of Google search.

Several years ago, a client came to me with the complaint that they had never shown up on page one of search. They hired me, and I used several SEO tools that I had purchased. As a result, I got this client on page one of Google, Yahoo and Bing search engines in about three months. Today it is harder to achieve this because there ten times as

many websites on the web and competition for organic search position is
fierce. To make matters worse, Google and other search engines continuously change their ranking algorithms. It's true that their primary emphasis is still user preference (shown by traffic) along with content authority, quality, relevance, timeliness, usefulness, and infotainment value. Having said that, I can still tell you, that you would be hard-pressed to obtain and hold a page one position on Google or any other search engine without engaging in keyword research, looking at your competition, measuring the effectiveness of your website’s elements and then monitoring the results of your efforts. To help my readers out, I have researched, used and provided my top SEO tool list to make it easier for you to choose what SEO tools you will need for your efforts. So, let’s get started.

#1 Google’s Web Tools – Recently I wrote an article just about Google’s web tools.  These tools are free (and free is good). On top of that, Google’s tools are useful and can increase your ranking as well. Several of my favorites are; Blogger.com, YouTube.com, Google’s mobile Friendly test, Google’s Page Speed Insights, Google My Business, Google

Analytics
, Google Maps and Google Webmaster Academy. Let’s face it. If you’re not using Google’s stuff to maximize your position in Google search, you’re missing the Google Boat. We believe that Google likes it when you utilize their stuff. This is because you can’t easily trick Google with their own products. They say they don’t reward you for using their products, but there is no doubt in my mind that they understand their products and the results they produce.  This leads to a better search engine ranking.

#2 Blogger and YouTube - I want to mention both Blogger and YouTube in this section as SEO tools even though they are really content publishing platforms. However, if you use them regularly (at least weekly)

and produce high quality, relevant, timely, useful content, it will produce ranking because of the traffic these platforms create. Both of these platforms require that you build an audience, but they are media-rich and both can be monetized as well. More people read blogs today than people read any other type of periodical, and 4 out of five people would rather watch a video that read your webpage. Visual multimedia is where it’s at, and you can build an audience if you're producing a quality product. This audience can get strong enough to become as useful as Google search on its own! Other Search engine webmaster tools worth looking at are Bing.com webmaster toolbox and Yoast webmaster toolbox.

#3 Ranking and SEO, Apps – If you're using Firefox, Comodo Dragon,

Chrome, the Internet Explorer or Edge, you can find useful SEO and page ranking tools in their app stores. You will find many apps that will do the trick depending on which browser you're using. I use most of the web browsers available to test websites for look and feel when they are built. I also use browser plugins (apps) to look at page ranking, traffic, and other stats as well. A good plugin for chrome is Open SEO Stats. It is available in the Chrome app store.

ranking. Moz Pro is their entry level SOE product that includes: keyword research, link building, site audits, and page optimization insights, as part of the package. Using MOZ Local helps you create a consistent business profile and ecosystem across all search engines, making it easier to get found and recognized.

Their free browser extensions, mobile app, and API will check to see if a website is safe (in the search listings) before you click on it. I have included this tool because it is possible to have your site listed in their database as suspicious or unsafe and you need to be able to communicate with them to fix any erroneous rating.

I recommend giving it a try since it offers a free download trial.

If you’re a webmaster or an entrepreneur who is trying to improve the ranking of their website, these tools are a terrific way to get started. There is no way you can improve your ranking without testing, measuring and monitoring the elements of your website with some of these tools. Many have free trials, all provide useful data, and most have entry-level pricing

as well.  If you're serious about improving your website ranking, you have only two choices. You can download, learn and use one or several of the above-listed webmaster tools to improve your SEO ranking or you can hire an SEO company and let them use their tools and labor to improve your position. It’s important to understand that just downloading, buying and learning how to use the above-listed tools “Will NOT” Improve Your Search Ranking! Only taking the time to learn how to successfully use them and then engaging in the labor to execute the campaigns will improve ranking. There is no magic button, app or software that will make that happen. Anyone who is trying to sell you a low-cost magic SEO solution is trying to take a shortcut into your wallet! Stay clear of anything that sounds too good to be true.

That’s my opinion; I look forward to hearing yours.
