The DIY Online Marketing Solution

“We’re Number ONE!”

That’s what everyone strives for in the USA. Whether you’re talking sports, business, academics, or keeping up with the Jones’, Americans are extraordinarily competitive. This is especially true for online position of Google search. Ever since the first search engines appeared more than 20 years ago, website owners vied for the top spot on every keyword combination imaginable. Today, a Page One position is more competitive and more important than ever before. There are nearly 600 million websites and only 14 to 20 Page One positions for any specific keyword combination. Talk about competitive!

Every business owner knows how important the Internet is to their success today. Most know it takes several different skills and oftentimes staff members in a variety of areas (website and landing page design, social media management, research/writing/editing, etc.) to achieve that success. The cost of staffing this team can be substantial. Consequently, they also know how expensive outsourcing the task can be.

This week, we introduce a scalable, cost-effective online marketing solution that’s designed to help any business succeed online. Called WWW University, this video-driven, online training program teaches the same techniques that we use in our award-winning, online marketing agency to guarantee organic results.  If your business is not on top of all the major search engines, you'll want to read this article in its entirety and listen to the radio show/podcast on BlogTalkRadio to learn some of our secrets. We’ll also provide a link to check out the first lesson for free.  Let’s get started.

Back in the early to mid-1990s, achieving a Page One result wasn’t all that difficult.  That’s because everything you needed to feed the search engines was on the first page of your nexus website.  Back then, there were no blogs.  Social networks hadn’t yet been invented.  Video was not even possible, since most web surfers used a dial-up connection.  Heck, most web designers had to be careful not to use high-resolution images, since these could cause a site to load at a glacial pace.

Today, the game has changed. High-speed Internet access is the norm. Even most smartphones have high-speed access. The Internet has become the Mac Daddy of interactive, multimedia marketing.  If you want to wind up on Page One of a major search engine, you need to do more than just create a properly optimized website. There are a lot of moving parts to take into consideration. Not only do you need to be concerned with site architecture (i.e., Meta tags, Alt tags, matching titles, descriptions and content), but you also need to add and feed everything from daily social posts, to publishing weekly blogs, to posting your profile to search directories, and to creating monthly videos. Today fresh, new content is king.

The multimedia approach isn’t just a great way to build and engage a targeted audience, it’s also a way to generate Google Page One position. Google, unquestionably, the world’s most popular search engine today, takes into account everything from how many followers you have on Twitter, Facebook and Google+, to how many people are reading, commenting and reposting your blogs. Another way to move your site Page One of Google is to post your videos on YouTube. Since Google also owns YouTube (the world’s most watched video portal), creating a growing following there will also improve your ranking on Google’s search. Heck, a well-optimized and much-followed video could produce a Page One ranking all by itself in as little as a week!

We call Google “the 800-pound gorilla in the room.” And believe me, it has a voracious appetite for fresh, new content, blogs, videos, social posts, videos, offers, incentives, updated landing pages, etc.  Here’s the problem:  Unless you have the time to do all of these activities yourself day in and day out, or you have a dedicated, online marketing staff to continually feed content to this beast, you will fail! Most business owners usually take one of four approaches:
  • Outsource their online marketing
  • Start off with the best of intentions only to run out of steam
  • Hire an individual to do the job who, because of the work load, will fail
  • Throw in the towel
In speaking to thousands of business owners over the past five years, I always

ask the obvious question, “If your competition is on Page One of the search engines and you’re not, is this good or bad for your business?” The answer is always, “bad for my business.” While every business owner agrees the last thing they want to do is provide their competition with any competitive edge, throwing in the towel is doing just that.

Many businesses have tried to outsource their online marketing with horrible results. The most common culprit here is choosing the wrong vendor as an outsource partner. The more competitive the arena, the higher the cost to compete. While most small businesses simply can’t afford to spend $1,000 a month on their Internet marketing, bigger businesses find themselves spending $1,000 to $10,000 per month just to get the job done. We’ve found that in many cases, bigger companies are spending big money in pay per click advertising, yet getting very little in return. For example, in the legal arena, law firms often pay as much as $30 for a single click. This is especially true if they’re buying ads to get their Page One placement (usually because they don’t have organic Page One position). This high cost works if they’re getting and winning a couple of million dollar cases a year. But that firm also has to have the financial wherewithal to spend tens of thousands of dollars a month to sustain that effort.

While I sympathize with these situations, we at Working the Web to Win believe there’s a better way. We educate business owners on the best ways to select a reputable online marketing firm. We’ve written and talked about this in the past.  What we haven’t been able to do, until now, is to teach our clients a step-by-step method for successful content marketing to achieve organic Page One position.  It takes a considerable amount of time to teach all the interactive parts of effective content marketing, which includes:
  • Blogging
  • Social Media Posts
  • Backlinks
  • Videos
  • Multimedia Content
  • Podcasting
  • On-page SEO
  • Directory Listings
  • Landing Pages
  • Touch Marketing
  • Pay per click
  • Banner advertising
So if you think paying someone a couple hundred dollars a month is going to magically move your website onto Page One of Google, you’re in for a rude awakening.

Is Scalable Online Marketing Possible?

The reality today: there is no longer any shortcut to long-term online results.  Sure, you can sometimes get an optimized blog or video to list on Page One of Google’s organic search. However, when it comes to getting your website to move up the rankings, today it takes a talented team to do all the work on an ongoing basis.

That’s also one reason we’ve been producing a weekly Working the Web to Win blog and radio show for the past three years. Hector, my business partner and I, weren’t trying to be content marketing superstars.  We just wanted to keep people up to speed on the ever-changing Internet.  While the show and blog provided business owners many gems of knowledge, there was no to systematically compile this material into an online, multimedia training course. One that would teach them how to become a scalable, DIY online marketing success. Until now.

Introducing WWW University

Starting May 1st, WWW University was introduced to bridge the gap by allowing website owners to decide how much of the task they want to take on and how much they want to outsource.  That’s because we’ve launched the first of our DIY Online Marketing Training Courses that are guaranteed to teach people the same techniques we’ve been using to generate organic Page One results for our clients for years.

Starting with our “SEO Made Easy” program, the businesses owner or web student will find the course material perfect for quick learning. The course consists of 20 chapters that take participants step-by-step through the process of optimizing websites. The course material covers everything from the proper use of page and image tags, to maximizing your Google Juice and leveraging local SEO.  The course also includes a half-dozen videos that show you what it takes to generate Page One results.  We also include everything from personal contact with the instructor, to a weekly WWWU newsletter that’s designed to keep you up to speed regarding the ever-changing World Wide Web.  Not bad for a one-time course fee of $97.

During the course of the next few months, we’ll be adding more courses including “Business Blogging,” “Videos Gone Wild,” “Social Media on Steroids” and more.  Even better: We’re going to offer our alumni special pricing for additional training modules and optional online marketing (via Working the Web to Win) that allows graduates to create a scalable, online marketing system that lets them decide how much time and money they want to spend to get the job done.

If you’d like to learn more about creating a scalable, affordable system of online marketing take our complimentary “SEO Made Easy” course for a test drive at http://wwwu.patience.io/catalog/4385.  You’ll find the free preview by scrolling down before you get to the middle of the page.

In this article, I discussed the launch of WWW University as an answer to the changes that SEO marketing has undergone since the 1990s.  Today a business has to engage in an ongoing, multimedia content marketing effort to obtain a Page One position on organic search, particularly with Google. WWW University provides businesses an affordable curriculum and scalable method for successful content marketing. This program appeals to business owner as well as directors of marketing and students. The knowledge obtained in these courses will make execution of any online marketing plan easier and will lower their overall cost as well. A free preview is available.
